What is Your 'Trojan Horse'?
Ephesians 6:11

AUDIO: Listen to the audio version of this post HERE.

Ephesians 6:11 (GW)
11  Put on all the armor that God supplies. In this way you can take a stand against the devil's strategies.

I would think that most, if not all, of my readers are at least vaguely familiar with the legend of Troy from Greek mythology.  According to the legend, a 10-year Trojan War between the Greeks and the city of Troy ended in spectacular fashion.

Having endured 10 years of siege against the city of Troy, the Greeks came up with a new strategic plan.  They would offer Troy a beautiful and very large wooden horse as a gift... and retreat!  So, when the large wooden horse was completed, the Greek army left the gift on the beach and retreated to their ships.  Their ships then cast off and set sail away from Troy.

The Trojans (residents of Troy) were overjoyed!  After 10 longs years of war, their attackers had given up and had actually left a beautiful parting gift!  The men of Troy opened their gates and rolled the large wooden horse into their fortified city.  That night, the residents of Troy probably celebrated in front of the horse and commended each other for staying strong throughout the long and stressful years of war.

As the legend continues, the residents of Troy were only given the one evening of celebration.  Later that night, as the relieved Trojans were sleeping after the party, the soldiers who had been stowed away inside the horse...  the soldiers who had listened to the sounds of celebration and boded their time...  the soldiers emerged from inside the horse and opened the fortified gates of Troy from inside the city.  The Greek army, who had circled back during the party, entered the city of Troy unimpeded and proceeded to annihilate the Trojans and burn the city of Troy to the ground.

While this makes for fantastic lore, though there is evidence that the details of this city and its siege may not be completely fictionalized, this strategic tactic may be more personally related than you realize.  Check out what the Bible has to say about our adversary, the Devil:

1 Peter 5:8 (GW)
11  Keep your mind clear, and be alert. Your opponent the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion as he looks for someone to devour.

Our subject verse for the day follows in the same vane:

Ephesians 6:11 (GW)
11  Put on all the armor that God supplies. In this way you can take a stand against the devil's strategies.

So, the question is this: What is the Devil using as a 'Trojan Horse' in your life in an attempt to bring down your defenses?  It's time you kick that loaded horse back outside the gates and show the Devil that you are wearing God's armor and have the Holy Spirit to help keep you alert and vigilant!
